Continued WNY idiocy

NIAGARA FALLS, NY-- The Niagara Falls Police Department is reviewing their policies and procedures after they let the wrong man out of jail earlier this week.

Police officials admit they made a mistake in letting the wrong person out on bail January 11th.

According to the police report, officers attempted to pull over a car driven by Paul Fields, 25, on Ferry Avenue in the Falls. The report goes on to say Fields refused to pull over and led police to 22nd Street. His passenger, Fajri Hilson, 26, jumped out of the car and ran. Police caught up with Hilson a few blocks away and arrested him and Fields.

Both men were taken to jail. A few hours later, someone posted Fields' bail, but police accidently released Hilson.

Officers located him several hours later and he was brought back to jail. http://www.wgrz.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=104861&catid=13

Census 2010

I was left a "Sorry I missed you" note from Sherry Osman, a Census worker on our fire-ravaged and boarded up home.

Now, I had waited and waited and waited for the census documents to show up for this address--the mail situation is another story entirely--but it never came.  I was going to do my civic duty and return the form marked "vacant" as I had filled out the Census form where we are currently living and mailed it back already.

Again, I did my civic duty by calling Ms. Osman at the number she left to explain the situation, and here's how that conversation went.

Call 1: "Sherry Osman, there's no one here by that name."  When I explained the vacant property, "oh, you need to call the 800 number [1.866.872.6868] and give your information over the phone."  And then he hung up.

Call 2:  "Is Sherry Osman a field worker?"  I responded yes and again explained the note and vacant house.  So, it turns out, Ms. Osman was supposed to leave the phone number to her direct line, not the main switchboard number.  Second, she wrote the wrong hours of operation on my "Sorry I missed you" note.  But I was assured that Ms. Osman would return a total of 5 (FIVE) times before marking my house off the list.  "But," I explained, "I'm trying to avoid that--what with my taxes paying for her trips and all."  "Yes, I see," he stammered.

So the short of it is, there's no way to reach Sherry Osman at the number she left for me: 716.923.9011 and no one apparently knows how to get in touch with her.  I'm going to mark up the "Sorry I missed you" note and mail it back to their general office.
